Marija Đurđević Ilić is a full professor of flute at the Music Academy of the University of Montenegro and the ex vice dean for the arts. She has been the principal flute of the Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra since 2007. She completed her master’s and bachelor’s studies in flute with the highest grades at the Music Academy in Cetinje. She has received awards for her Exceptional contribution to the development of artistic and research work and the international positioning of the University of Montenegro in 2021, as well an Award for outstanding achievements in the field of arts from the city of Podgorica and the Ministry of Culture. As a professor and flute lecturer, she has conducted numerous master classes and seminars both in her home country and abroad, for students from elementary and high schools, as well as students from music conservatories. She serves as the chairperson or a member of the jury in several domestic and international flute competitions in various categories, both in her country and the region. She has participated in numerous events in various festivals. She has been the winner and laureate of all flute festivals in the region, including Belgrade, Valjevo, Požarevac, Podgorica, Kotor, and others. At the international Petar Konjović competition in Belgrade, she won a new instrument as a laureate. In her solo career, she has achieved high artistic results that have placed her at the top of flute performance in the former Yugoslavia. She has performed on the Montenegrin stage in cities like Podgorica, Bar, Tivat, Budva, Cetinje, Kotor, Herceg Novi, and also had multiple solo performances in foreign concert halls in various countries and cities, including Belgrade, Kragujevac, Novi Sad, Niš, Zrenjanin, Kraljevo, Bukurest, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Ankara, Venice, Verona, Umag, Skoplje, Brussels and more. As a music educator, she has made an exceptional contribution. Students of this outstanding artist have won numerous awards at international, national, and regional competitions. She encourages her students to actively participate in various competitions and festivals, where her class regularly represents the University of Montenegro and the Music Academy both in the country and abroad. She has performed in more than 360 concerts with the Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra during 16 years of active musical work and has appeared several times as a soloist with this orchestra, both in the country and abroad. As a soloist, she has played some of the most challenging concertos written for solo flute with orchestra, including W.A. Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra K.313 in G major, B. Martinu’s Concerto for Flute, Violin, and Orchestra, and C. Reinecke’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra Op.283.She has also played with the Symphony Orchestra of Radio-Television of Serbia. Throughout her artistic career, she has had the opportunity to perform with leading conductors and musicians of today. She is the winner of the MOVE Grant for 2024.
