Roberto Buttus’ reputation for excellence and attention to detail in all aspects of wind instruments has brought him the deserved respect and admiration of musicians worldwide. Following a long period of highly specialised training in Italy, France and Germany, Roberto created his own atelier in Northern Italy, and since 1989 he has worked there as an advanced maintenance technician in both wood and metal and more recently as a manufacturer of his own instruments. His reputation for high-quality repairs, his precision and hi-tech methodologies has brought musicians from Italy and beyond to his workshop; but it is his passion for his craft, his remarkable ability to listen to his clients and his constant willingness to discuss and debate all aspects of his craft that have cemented his singular reputation for excellence. This great empathy and his willingness to communicate his knowledge and skills means that Roberto is a constant reference point for lectures and seminars concerning the repair and history of wind instruments both in Italy and abroad. Roberto’s vast experience has inevitably led him to make the leap to manufacturing. His constant research and development, his use of the best materials and his high-precision mechanical processing have produced instruments that are ready-blowing and stable, with precise intonation and excellent projection. These remarkable instruments – first the Sequoia Saxophones, then the Savût Trumpets, and now the new RB Series of Saxophones-are all customised according to the desires of each musician, whether professional or amateur, reflecting the true generosity and open spirit of Roberto Buttus.
